" Now that DELL is selling AMD desktops how does that effect the OA initiative ? "

It is an important door that is opening up, just like previous years commercial AMD desktop offering from HP and others. However, the open architecture values will not flow to the enterprise until it implements these new process(s). Furthermore, these values will not flow globally through other business segments or begin to trend downward until the financial weight of the Fortune 500 procurement expression creates the appropriate economic environment.

"We value DELL as a supplier, how does this effect them?"

" We believe there will come a time when we will use AMD products, too."

"Initial production cost would go up."

" While we would never say 'never', the economies would have to be compelling, and customers would have to demand it."

- Kevin Rollins 4/8/05 reports Kevin Farrel

The OA F500 desktop process(s) are the key to creating the proper economies to support our suppliers movement towards an open architecture.

" Isn't naming two vendors in the standards twice as bad as naming one?"

NO, it is half as bad, recalling the OA linear progression model we can clearly see this is in the direction of an open architecture:

The enterprise gains the value(s) of newly competitive microprocessor; pricing, performance and MDF. Furthermore, as these gains are attained they begin to grow in value and descend through the non-leadership segments, such as, education, medium/small business and bring important value to the digital divide issues.
